Escapism Junkie Update #1

August 19th, 2006 by cool-butike

It’s a saturday night and I’m stuck here in the office, but I’m not too depressed because by 10pm I’m FREE!  Woohoo! I’m finally in top condition to drink my ass off and I’ll be meeting up with friends. I’m pretty much excited about that because I have missed them so much that it hurts…(and abrupt transition to a totally different topic that I just want to say)- Almost everyone out of work has been telling me lately that I’ve been looking younger than normal and I can’t figure out why they think so.  First of all my job right now is a lot more stressful than my old one.  Plus I think I’m losing weight again (in an unflattering manner),  so as to why I’m looking younger, I absolutely have no idea–in love daw hahaha, no comment.

Lady in the Water

July 28th, 2006 by cool-butike

I’ve seen it and I liked it.  I honestly expected this movie to disappoint me based on what critics have said, but then again, I should have known better.  M. Night Shyamalan has never really been known for being a favorite of critics but I love his movies anyway (from ‘Sixth Sense’ to ‘Signs’ to ‘The Village’ although I’m not much of an ‘Unbreakable’ fan).  Like any Shyamalan film every scene in this movie is a clue that makes the unraveling of the twist at the end (This isn’t a spoiler. We all know that an M. Night Shyamalan movie wouldn’t be one without a twist, right?) much more satisfying  to witness.  I recognize of course, the fact that not everyone would enjoy watching ‘Lady in the Water’.  A little suspension of belief is highly recommended when viewing this.  There may be some scenes that come off as awkward but let me tell you, those scenes are awkward just because Mr. Shyamalan is proving a point.  You’ll realize this at the end of course (if you’re paying attention to the clues).  Plus I love the fact that watching this movie just makes me want to keep on talking about it and analyzing it with a friend, making me like it even more.  I’m dying to give away details but that would spoil your viewing fun and I wouldn’t want to do that.  Let me just add that the acting of the cast is superb, especially Bryce Dallas Howard and Paul Giamatti.  As in his past movies, M. Night Shyamalan appears in the movie but he plays a bigger role than usual and and gives surprisingly convincing performance.  (If my writing here is incoherent & riddled with grammatical errors, I blame it on lack of sleep and the fact that the only thing keeping me up on my feet right now is Pepsi X.)

This Natural High

July 25th, 2006 by cool-butike

I would never have expected the fuzzy feeling of being rockstar-struck to stay with me for so long, but it has.  I’m still feeling the buzz and my giddiness just refuses to die a natural death.  That’s probably why I was miraculously capable of consuming that much alcohol in one night without having to puke my guts out on the way home.  Thank god for rockstars :)

Just finished the trainee’s final exam in my not quite so new job and my head hurts.  Moments like these that make me feel like an idiot.  I miss feeling smart. Haha kapal.

How Evil Am I?

July 10th, 2006 by cool-butike

Apparently more evil than normal.  Why am I not surprised?

World Domination, here I come bwahahahaha!

You Are 56% Evil
You are evil, but you haven’t yet mastered the dark side. Fear not though - you are on your way to world domination.
How Evil Are You?

A Waste or Not A Waste? –I have no idea.

Last Friday, me and a friend went to Capone’s anticipating a normal Dicta License gig, only to find an MTV Pilipinas nominations event. This didn’t cheer me up because for one thing, I hate crowds (ridiculous, I know coming from a person who loves hanging out in bars) and for another thing, I figured that Dicta License would have a shorter set (and I was right. They just played 3 songs! –sobrang bitin man!) Aside from that, I ran into someone who isn’t really part of my favorite people list, but hey I got a free beer in the process (but I’m still complaining). It was one hell of a bizarre night, especially when I encountered a few ghosts of my past, reminding me of the stupidity and insanity of my youth. Ugh. I’m feeling older already.

You’re the New Cancer

June 25th, 2006 by cool-butike

Don’t you just hate it when you realize that in all those years of feigning indifference, you have somehow allowed that person to fester deep inside you, making you finally recognize the fact that you have NO closure at all? I know he doesn’t deserve that much thought, but the part of me that puts friendship in the highest regard just won’t allow me to let it go, and it sucks. But I’ve decided that from now on, when it comes to him, there’s no looking back.

So to you who has given me something that I now refuse to dwell upon, have a good life, wherever you are. I sincerely mean that.

Full Metal Escapism

June 13th, 2006 by cool-butike

I’m in a "Full Metal Panic" phase and I just can’t get out of it (Christelle kasi eh). I’ve seen all the current episodes, I’ve got the music, and now I’m in love with Sagara Sousuke. *sigh* I haven’t felt this way since obsessing over Samurai Champloo and Mugen.

Fatal Frame III: The Tormented

June 2nd, 2006 by cool-butike

Guess what? I’m bored, so I decided why not talk about something interesting and freaky like Fatal Frame?  My train of thought is a little twisted, I know. Seriously this game just freaks me out, yet in a weird way, I just cannot stop playing it  (not alone of course–yes I admit, I am a wuss when it comes to these things).  The Fatal Frame 3 experience is pretty much synonymous to a good Japanese horror movie experience, except that you get to be in it, which is much freakier than just being part of the passive audience.  There were moments that I held on to the controller with one hand, whilst covering my eyes with another (how impractical and wuss-like of me hehe).  The scare and the story is what makes this game interesting.  The gameplay can be frustrating sometimes because of the controls.  It can be annoying and creepy at the same time (annoying because you just can’t kill the stupid ghost due to the messed up controls and creepy because you just can’t kill the stupid ghost due to the messed up controls).  My other problem with playing this game at night is that I can’t sleep right after going through Fatal Frame 3, because I get awful nightmares, so I have to finish it with a "chaser" like Kingdom Hearts or Katamari Damasi.  Anyhow, Fatal Frame 3 is still worth all the little hassles if you enjoy a pretty good scare.
